What it does

Heat wrap is wound around an exhaust manifold or header to keep heat inside the pipe. Hotter exhaust gas flows faster, and less heat radiates into the engine bay, which helps nearby parts such as the intake, radiator and wiring run cooler and reduces heat soak.

A 10 metre roll is generally enough for one header. Wrap from one end of the pipe to the other with an even overlap on each turn, and secure the ends with stainless steel ties or clamps. The aluminium face reflects radiant heat away from surrounding parts.

Many installers soak the wrap in water before fitting so it pulls tight around bends, then let it dry fully. Expect some smoke and smell the first few times the exhaust gets hot, as the wrap cures. Check the wrap now and then for damage, especially near flexible joints and hangers.
