What it does

The baffles are welded into the oil pan so the oil pump can keep picking up oil when the car is used hard on the street or on circuit. Oil starvation happens during hard cornering and heavy braking, and is a common problem on track. The baffles stop the oil surging away from the pickup as it is thrown around by those forces.

After the baffle pieces are test fitted into the sump, everything should be welded in permanently by a professional. Plan the job for when the sump is off the engine, and clean the pan thoroughly after welding before it goes back on.

Baffling the sump is a common modification on Honda track and race builds, and works well alongside an oil cooler and good quality oil, so the Civic Type R Sump Baffles kit is often part of a wider oil system upgrade. Keep the oil topped up to the correct level, as baffles help but do not replace a full sump.
