How it works

The Street Basis Celica kit is from the Tein Street Basis Z range. The top of each shell pipe is narrowed, oil and gas are injected, and the unit is sealed by crimping the metal, which shortens production and keeps the price down. The twin-tube design gives a longer stroke with a smaller repulsive force than a regular mono-tube damper, so the car rides gaps and bumps steadily, with a smooth ride at low speed and stability at high speed.

On the Street Basis Celica kit, ride height is set by moving the lower spring seat up or down on the threaded body, a simple layout that is easy to use. Damping is fixed, with the valving matched to the supplied springs. The kit uses the original upper mounts from the car, so check they are in good condition before fitting.
