Short steering wheel boss SRK-E30H from NRG Innovations: a one-piece aluminium steering wheel boss for BMW E30 E28, for use with an NRG quick release.

NRG designed it so an aftermarket steering wheel fitted with an NRG quick release still sits in the same place, not too close to the driver. It is a one-piece aluminium part made to work with NRG quick release products.

Why fit an NRG short hub

NRG’s short hub was the product that started the brand. It has the shortest possible mounting surface while still letting you keep your horn and indicators working about 99% of the time, so a steering wheel fitted with an NRG quick release sits at a comfortable distance from the driver rather than too close.

Construction

The hub is machined from 6061 aluminium in one piece and anodised for durability and finish. It has a 6 x 70mm bolt pattern for the quick release or steering wheel, and is designed to work with NRG lockable quick release units such as the Gen 2.0 and Gen 2.5 (sold separately).

Choosing the right hub

Each NRG hub is made to suit the steering column of the vehicles it is listed for, so choose by your make, model and year using the fitment list below. If you are fitting an NRG quick release for the first time, you will need both the hub for your car and the quick release itself.

Choosing and fitting the short steering wheel boss

To choose the correct short steering wheel boss, find your make, model and year in the fitment list, then check your steering column spline, as splines can vary. The short steering wheel boss bolts to the steering column in place of the factory wheel, and an NRG quick release then fits to it, with your aftermarket wheel on the quick release. Before removing a factory wheel, disconnect the battery and follow the airbag safety steps for your vehicle, and have the work done by a competent fitter if you are unsure.
