Why fit hood dampers
The D1 Hood Damper Civic EG set holds the bonnet open on its own, so there is no prop rod to find and set every time you check the oil or work on the engine. With the rod gone, the engine bay also looks tidier, which suits a car with a dressed-up bay.
What is in the box
The D1 Hood Damper Civic EG set includes the left and right dampers and all the mounting materials needed to fit them. Fit both sides so the bonnet is supported evenly.
Fitting
Support the bonnet while you fit the D1 Hood Damper Civic EG set, attach the brackets to the bonnet and the body using the supplied hardware, and check the bonnet still closes and latches properly. Check the fixings again after a few days. Gas dampers lose strength over time, so if the bonnet starts to drop it is time to replace them.
Good to know
Bonnet dampers are sold as a pair because one damper alone cannot hold the bonnet evenly and may twist it. Keep the damper rods clean and free of paint or polish residue, and avoid leaning on an open bonnet. In very cold weather gas dampers can feel weaker until they warm up, which is normal.
